What's New: July 2008
The Southern Foodways Alliance’s Cornbread Nation 4: The Best of Southern Food Writing is now in bookstores. If you’d like to sample what’s in the book, check out my essay, “No Bones About It,” which is just one of many glimpses of food and food culture in the South. I’m incredibly honored to have an essay included in this collection, which features the food writings of such luminaries as Pat Conroy, Molly O’Neill, David Leite and the late Edna Lewis.
My latest article in Edible Memphis is on the two completely different natures of the fig: fresh and dried. You can view it here.
I’ve been devoting considerable time recently to my blog, after having been more or less dragged into it kicking and screaming. Now I love it! For any of you writers out there who aren’t blogging, just let me say that maintaining a blog makes you a better, faster and more efficient writer. So if you’re hesitant to take the plunge, just do it! You’ll be amazed by all you gain from the experience. And you’ll find that you’re rapidly stockpiling ideas from which to pluck the best to spin into full magazine or newspaper articles.
I’ve just returned from visits to New Orleans, Memphis and Mexico City, so there will be more on my travels—and food adventures—on my blog.
In the meantime, have a great summer, and if you come across some amazing destination or food, please let the rest of us know!
